Christian Education

Church School classes for children begin the second Sunday in September and end the third Sunday in May. Participants range in age from infants to teens of confirmation age. During the summer months when there is no formal Church School, volunteers stay with any children present at services. Church School materials are provided for their use.

For the 2007-2008 year, the church School  is continuing to use a program based on the Workshop Rotation Model. One theme runs for three weeks, with children participating alternately in cooking, drama and story-telling activities to illustrate the theme.

One Sunday a month the children come to church to participate in the Eucharist and to present songs worked on over the month. Following the service, the children write letters and learn how children live in other parts of the world. One recent children’s outreach effort promoted support for needy families in Zambia by donating funds to purchase goats.

Each Christmas, the children present a pageant for the congregation. Godparents Sunday is celebrated later in January. In the spring, children plant bulbs and flowers are the church grounds in celebration of Rogation Sunday.

Middle School schildren have  their own Church School Class.  They have a couple of fundraising projects for Outreach each year, and they are candidates for becoming torch bearers and acolytes. They work with the Priest-in-Charge on a monthly basis to learn these important roles.
